One of the salesmen (who seemed to know what he was talking about) said Mazda has told dealerships they are in the middle of determining whether they should produce either a Mazdaspeed 6, a Mazdaspeed 3, and my personal favorite, a turbocharged RX-8.
For those wondering, if the said RX-8 is approved for production, it will have a rotary (I thought Mazda might have given up the ghost, but according to him no), and it would be some sort of 13-B variant (which is what the stillborn 16X was, though it wasn't turbocharged). I think it's fair to say one of those three cars will be produced. Also for those wondering why I was at a Mazda dealership, I have my reasons (which I will talk about later).

While I'd love for it to be a new RX (no seriously, it's probably the only car on my radar as a potential trade in for my FR-S), the smart money says that it's going to be a new Speed3 if it's only one of them.

Of course a Speed3 is going to be made. They made it for the last 2 gens
I doubt a a Speed6 will be made because not only was the last one a huge flop, but it had really significant mechanical issues
There's no way a turbo'd RX8 will be made. They already got rid of it in 2012 and it's been gone for 2 years so why bring it back now? And I doubt it would be the 13B or 13B based because they haven't used that engine for a long time.
Also, you're trusting what a salesman told you? Why would he have some inside scoop but no car magazines or websites do?
Not trying to be a dick, but I'm seriously doubtful.

I'm interested in what the main issue with the Mazdaspeed 6 was? I just understood that they never really sold due to price/class. Never heard of mechanical issues.

The rear differentials really enjoyed blowing up, the stock tune is pretty iffy, the trannys had several problems, and that's about all I know

Eh, I got word from JLR guy that he saw the LR4, and sure enough it came out soon. Also given Mazda's current finial situation (their pretty much on their own) that they could justify having another Mazdaspeed. As for the RX-8, the Renesis was an evolution of 13B so it's possible. Still your probably right.

One of the salesman from Mazda told me 4 months before it was announced that the 25th anniversary Miata would show up soon and that I should pre-order it. So I knew about it and all the details about it before everyone...and like you, I didn't trust him...

Agreed, there is really no way the RX-8 would be true. Retooling just for a limited run RX8 when the real run at full production already peaked and waned years ago.
Now an RX9... More likely but still highly, highly doubtful.
Also, dealerships sometimes get little tid bits before it is completely public, but more like the news of we are getting a new performance package from the factory that includes pinstriping and a cupholder.

Not saying they are all fullofshit. But, I spent 19 years in insurance sales. We were considered only a step above car salesman.
